KCC Mathugama

Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara succeeded in obtaining the sanction of the state council of Ceylon for a scheme of free education, providing all the children of our country equal opportunities to climb to the highest rung of the education ladder.
C.W.W. Kannagara Central College, Matugama is the first central school that was established as a result of free education. Thus the way was paved for clever children in the district of Kaluthara to reap the benefits of higher education.
C.W.W. Kannangara Central College has been promoted as a national school. In every year the students of this school obtain excellent results for O/Levels and A/Levels examinations and as a result of that many Administrative officers, Doctors, Engineers, Accountants, Architects and Lawyers hail from the school.
Not only education, but also in sports C.W.W. Kannangara Central College has excelled. Due to these achievements our school is chosen by most of scholars.
Having started with just a handful of students in 1880 with the able guidance of dedicated and committed principals and teachers our school has blossomed in to a school which accommodates over 5000 students. Due to the high standards there is a big demand from the parents in admitting their children.
There are Tamil and English medium classes for students who wish to study in those mediums.
In addition to the curricular programme our school provides many opportunities for the students to participate in extra curricular activities in the fields of fine arts such as music, drama, art and literary fields. An extensive range of sports comprising of athletics, football, netball, cricket, table tennis, badminton and chess are provided to the students. Some of the highlights of the school calendar are the Inter house sports meet, Poson Bathi gee recital and etc.
Our students have shown a keen interest to complete at Inter school competitions such as English day, Sinhala day competitions and sports. With the able guidance of dedicated teachers and the present principal K.A. Somapala our students get the experience and exposure to face challenges with students from other schools from various parts of the country. Genuine qualities of truth courage and discipline are inculcated to the students of C.W.W. Kannangara Central College from their formative. With the help of the school students would be able to overcome any travails they may encounter later in their lives as adults.
