Paróquia Nossa Senhora da Assu

The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Itatiaia set, which would host the Parish of the same name, was conceived in the early 1980s, the Italian priest Sergio Foglia. At that time and since the foundation of the district in 1978, Catholic celebrations took place in homes or in the Social Center Urban and catechism classes get along in the State College Waldemar Mundim.

To build the temple, it was necessary much more than they could give the faithful the collections and the tithe. The priest was seeking resources with friends and entrepreneurs in their homeland. The project and the church of the plant were drawn by the priest himself, from a similar work existing in Italy.

Many of the steps were performed at a rate of joint effort, coordinated by the most active time of the faithful: Geraldo Dias, Generino Helium Bolívar, John Elias, among others. But none gave as much as Percílio Batista Teles, who alone raised several walls.

In 1985, the temple was opened and on August 15, 1988, was consecrated to Our Lady of the Assumption, with the blessing of Don Antonio de Oliveira Ribeiro, Archbishop of Goiania. The Catholic Church Itatiaia had a strong catechesis and an effervescent youth movement, which turned out to foster vocations, such as Waldemar Passini, today priest and rector of Inter-diocesan Seminary in Goiania. The deacon Vicente Gomes was the right-hand Foglia.

At the end of 1991, Sergio Foglia left the parish, who received the priest Luiz Alberto. He promoted as major changes, the creation of teams of Tithing and the Liturgy. One of the highlights was the Madrigal choir of the parish, which would often be called to lead collective celebrations of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Goiânia.

Father Pedro Martinez, coming from Minaçu, would replace him in April 1994. At that time, the parish already had several teams and different movements, which had great autonomy. Pedro priest of St Peter Ad Binds Congregation promoted several expansions in the physical area of ​​church during more than 14 years he remained at the head of the community.

From August 2008, the direction of the parish went to the young priest Marcos Rogério, the same congregation. With an emphasis on liturgical and welcome part, besides the restoration of the parish council, the new pastor has been promoting the renewal of the community with dedication to schedule activities, decided jointly in the Parish Assembly. The result has been an increasingly involvement and the return of many brothers who had moved away.

In parish activities Fr. Marcos Rogerio is aided by the Vicar Fr. Cidimar and Fr. Joseph Fernandez.
