Isabel Flores de Oliva was born in Lima in 1586 and died in 1617. Peruvian nun of the Dominican order was the first saint of America. Having given signs of an intense spiritual precocity, at twenty he took the habit of tertiary dominica, and devoted his life to the care of the sick, children and ascetic practices, the fame of his sanctity soon spread. Revered during his lifetime for his mystical visions and miracles attributed to him in little more than half a century it was canonized by the Catholic Church, which declared patron saint of Lima and Peru, and shortly after America, the Philippines and East Indies.
