Free November is an original initiative of Charles University students, which was later joined by students from other universities. It formed around a team of students who organized the Memorial of Honor on November 17 at Albertov for three years, in the context of this year's 30th and 80th anniversary of the November events. From the very beginning of the preparation of today's traditional events at Albertov, we have tried to accentuate values ​​such as freedom, democracy, law, debate or openness. This year, however, we ask not only ourselves what these values ​​really mean to us after 30 years in a free country and how much we value them. There is an increasing number of citizens who have no experience with the past regime other than mediated information, since they were born after 89. Moreover, the current social situation favors the collective forgetfulness and perception of values ​​for which people have died in history as a matter of course. Therefore, it is not only a joy to remember these breakthrough events, but also to have a critical discussion about them, to think about them and to learn the importance of their legacy. This journey does not end with a beautiful round anniversary, this journey continues without its final destination somewhere in the distance. In this case, indeed, the journey is both reward and substance. In the spirit of the slogan Who, if not we, when, if not now, remember the memory of November 17 and together experience the freedom around us, which fills us with joy, satisfaction and expectation.
The references to the November events were and are the source of our national unity, identity and pride. It is a great honor for us to be free to participate in activities that aim to remain so in the future.
