Herbarium and Botanical Gardens of Brera and Città Studi, University of Milan

The app offers the user curiosity and news on the events and collections of the Botanical Gardens of Brera and Città Studi and the Herbarium of the University of Milan (Herbarium Universitatis Mediolanensis).
In particular, the app is a tool that guides the visitor in each of the two botanical gardens to discover some plants of the collections: botanical information, such as the family they belong to, the area of ​​origin and the morphological characteristics, but also information on the use of parts of the plant for well-being, nutrition or raw materials; at times it provides information on the symbolism or tradition to which the plant is linked.
Thanks to the apparatus of resources associated with each card, it shows the details or the plant in various phases of the life cycle and over the seasons, but also the plant represented in the splendid historical botanical tables of the collections and in the specimens of the University Herbarium State.
For the collections of the Herbarium Universitatis Mediolanensis, which cannot be freely visited, the app is a precious opportunity to virtually explore some of the hundreds of splendid historical botanical tables and the two collections of thin sections of wood (xylotheques) dating from the II mid-19th to early 20th century, as well as some examples of the numerous historical collections of herbarium samples, which altogether include over 30,000 specimens.
The app is a useful tool in the physical but also virtual visit of the botanical and historical heritage of the Milanese gardens and the state herbarium.

The Brera Botanical Garden Museum is a historic garden established in 1774, located in the center of Milan, which offers rich collections that include over 1000 species of plants including medicinal plants, specific, useful environments, and others, in addition to the trees among which stand out the two Ginkgo biloba of around 250 years of age. It is a place of research and advanced training on plants, but also a suggestive environment for recreation and pleasure thanks to the numerous events it offers to visitors.
The Herbarium Universitatis Mediolanensis is a collection of historical collections of botanical wall tables, xylotheques and herbaria which, from the second half of the 19th century, have carried out an educational function and as an aid to scientific research, useful for knowing and recognizing plants from a morphological and functional. It is a heritage whose scientific value, still current, is combined with an artistic value, which fascinates different audiences.
The Città Studi Botanical Garden is a "garden of science", a university area designed to support research and teaching, equipped with high-tech greenhouses, but also to bring a large public closer to the knowledge of plant species and their respect.
The botanical gardens of the Statale are recognized by the Lombardy Region as museum institutions.
