هايده با نام واقعي معصومه دده بالا در سال 1321 هجري شمسي در يکي از روستاهاي کرمانشاه به دنيا آمد. وي کارش را در راديو با برنامه گل هاي رنگارنگ آغاز کرد و از همان اوايل نام خود را در شناسنامه موسيقي ايران به ثبت رسانيد. هايده به گفته بسياري داراي يکي از بهترين صداهاي تاريخ موسيقي ايران بود. زنده ياد هايده در 7 شهريور 1357 مانند بسياري از هنرمندان ديگر وطن را به قصد لندن ترک کرد و پس از مدتي به آمريکا رفت و کار هنري خويش را در آنجا ادامه داد تا اينکه در 30 دي سال 1368 با اينکه هنوز بيش از 47 بهار از عمرش نگذشته بود در آمريکا بر اثر سکته قلبي ديده از جهان فرو بست و دوست داران خويش را در غم و اندوه فرو برد.
به مانند دلکش ، هايده نيز با تسلط فني موسيقايي و با شور و انرژي مي‌خواند. فريدون خشنود، جهانبخش پازوکي، محمد حيدري و انوشيروان روحاني از جمله آهنگسازان کارنامه هنري و خوانندگي هايده بودند.
