The tambourine is a stringed instrument in which strings are passed through long handles and bowls and sounded with the tapping of fingers.
The tambourine has also been called a tambourine by some, and today the tambourine can be interpreted as a local instrument with longer handles and larger, more curved bowls than a three- or three-stringed instrument with 14 strings, separated by an octave interval in the instrument.
This instrument is played with the paw, and this is one of the reasons for the family connection between the local tambourine and the dutar, and the sutar, which are also played with the finger (nail).
The tambourine has a mystical and epic character and this instrument is also used to play epic pieces. This instrument has found different letters and shapes during the historical and cultural journey of the tambourine in different places and areas.
The tambourine has a pear belly and long handles on which 10 to 15 curtains are closed. The handle of this instrument, like a setar, is attached to the head of the instrument, and its head is in fact a continuation of the handle, on the front and side surfaces of which, two earphones are placed, around which the wires are wrapped. There are 4 tambourine strings and they are usually tuned at different distances. This instrument is usually played without a percussion and with a finger.
Types of tambourines with different names and shapes:
Quchani, Shervani, Baghdadi, Ctesiphon tenbur and various strings, chegor and qupuz. Playing this instrument with similar shapes is still common in most parts of Iran.

There are two types of tambourines based on their appearance; A tambourine is a bowl that is a piece and a grass tambourine is a piece of wood and its bowl is made of pieces of wood. The first advantage of this type is that it is both easier to build and repair.
History of Tanbur:
Based on three sculptures found in the ruins of Susa, the tambourine has a history of about 1500 BC. The tambourine was once made in a variety of pear-shaped bowls common in Iran and Syria, then went west through Turkey and Greece, and its oval bowl was played in Egypt.
The tanbur has been interpreted as an ancient Iranian instrument that was used during the Sassanid period, Khosrow Parviz and before that.
The tambourine maker was considered an Iranian musician and Ibn Khordad considered the singing of the people of Rey, Tabarestan and Deylam with the tambourines to be correct.
Today, the tambourine is popular throughout Iran, but the main focus of this instrument is the provinces of Kermanshah and Kurdistan and the northern regions of Lorestan. This instrument is known in these areas as Tamira, Tamira, Tamura and Tamour.
In the Kurdish region of Turkey called Diar Bakr, there is a type of tambourine called a baklama with large bowls, 5 strings and about 20 hands, which is played with a percussion instrument.
Different parts of the tambourine:
Bowl: The same lower part of the tambourine that has different shapes depending on the region and its manufacturer. The bowl of this instrument is generally made of mulberry wood, and the choice of the type of wood, that is, what kind of berry it is, has its own points.
Handle: The end of the tambourine that is attached to the bowl, which has a great effect on the sound.
