方格騎士團的故事發生在艾爾大陸上，大陸上不知從何時開始就已經有了人族、貓族、熊族、蛋族四個大種族。在艾爾大陸上，科技的文明之火已經點燃，但是過去神話時代的遺留尚未褪去，這是個既有刀劍也有槍炮的世界。
有工業生產線，也有帶有神奇效果的藥劑。當然在這個蒸汽龐克的幻想世界中，魔法是不存在的，一切都要通過蒸汽和鋼鐵來驅動。
在艾爾大陸的四大種族分別成為了四個陣營，每個陣營都有自己的科技特點和攻擊方式，我們可以在騎士團的騎士身上明顯的看到這些區別。而這些騎士的名字我們都會發現似曾相識，他們為什麼會出現在那片大陸上，他們和現世的人物有著什麼關聯，他們是否還存有現世的記憶，讓玩家進行發掘探索。
玩家不僅可以率領騎士團不斷的探險，也需要建設自己的家園來讓騎士成長。在艾爾大陸上，也有各種可以探索的遺跡，多種多樣的事件，可討伐的怪物，這些都是騎士團的戰鬥目標。玩家需要面對不同的情況，組建不同的隊伍來應對。偶爾也能找到特殊的騎士來招募。
騎士團的戰鬥發生在騎士和巨像之間，玩家可以召喚和怪物類似能力的守衛來防守自己的巨像，並且可以嘗試自己去佈陣防守其他玩家，也許你能做的比設計師更厲害！
玩家之間有許多中立的領地可以去爭奪，這些領地是騎士團重要的資源來源，和其他玩家一起爭奪這些領地吧！
