The author infers a set of experiments on mice, where they were prevented from sleeping for several days, and compared to a group of mice that were deprived of food. It was found that mice that were deprived of sleep all died before those that were forbidden to eat, and many studies have shown that there is a direct relationship between insufficient sleep and several Diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and even Alzheimer's disease
The writer points out that there are two great politicians who are known for their poor sleep, Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan, both of whom ended up suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
Unfortunately, no sleep loss can be compensated for. Sleeping long during the weekend is not enough to make up for the shortfall you recorded during the week, and every missing hour of sleep has a direct impact on all aspects of your life and your mental and physical health.
