Biology is a natural science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structures, functions, growth, evolution, distribution, and classification.

Modern biology is a broad field consisting of many branches and sub-disciplines, but it includes some unified general concepts that link its various branches and follow all studies and research. Derived from the Greek term biology (meaning life, study or science), this term first appeared in 1736 when Carlos Linnaeus used it in one of his books, followed by its German translation in 1771 in a translation of Linnaeus' work. This term came into modern use in a six-volume treatise written by the German scientist Gottfried Reinhold Triveranos, who said: “The subject of our research will be the various forms and manifestations of life, the conditions and laws under which these phenomena occur, and the matters and causes that affect them. And biology is very broad and divided into several branches, the most important of which are microorganisms, zoology, botany, as well as physiology, biochemistry and ecology.
