How to organize gardening

The garden not only grows vegetables, but also flowers and herbs, as well as fruit trees and shrubs. Choose plants that have been proven in your climate and pay attention to their susceptibility to disease - resistant varieties will contribute to natural defenses.

When choosing vegetables, do not forget about their decorative qualities: colorful and varied in shape of leaves, interesting flowers and bright fruits. The often skilful combination of vegetables creates a visually appealing composition.

May be enriched with herbs and flowers. Some of them are edible (marigolds, lavender, nasturtium) and are suitable as an addition to salads and other dishes. Ornamental plants are also allies in pest control - they lure beneficial insects, and they are also a trap for pests (for example, nasturtium, which aphids readily choose, leaving other plants alone).

The trees in the garden must be a dwarf. Low varieties of apples and pears can be grown in rows in the beds or by the fence around the garden. Fruit bushes, especially gooseberries and currants, are the most beautiful and adorn the surroundings even in winter.

The plants in the garden must be provided with sufficient space (recommended spacing is indicated on the seed package). A too tight fit will hinder their growth and significantly impair air circulation between them, which can lead to an exacerbation of diseases, especially fungal ones. Too sparse plant distribution means a loss of valuable soil surface as well as more weeding work (free space is controlled by weeds).

It should also be remembered that some plants will be harvested. To prevent holes, slower ripening vegetables (tomatoes, cabbage, carrots) should be planted alternately with short growing vegetables (lettuce, peas, radish) or annual flowers (nasturtium bush, zinnia, marigold).

Harvesting during the season will also be ensured by picking earlier and later varieties of the same vegetables. Some, like lettuce, radish, green beans, can be sown several times, every dozen or so days, for a continuous harvest (but remember that not all varieties are suitable for summer cultivation).

For perennial vegetables - asparagus, rhubarb, or sorrel - you need to allocate a separate bed so that their requirements do not interfere with the care of other plants. Herbs are also best planted in a separate location, especially since many of them are also perennials (including sage, thyme, and lovage).
