ملك العود

ينتمي إلى آل الأطرش وهم أمراء وإحدى العائلات العريقة في جبل العرب جنوب سوريا هذه المنطقة المسماة جبل الدروز أيضاً نسبة لسكانها الدروز.


الأميرة علياء المنذر وهي مطربة تمتعت بصوت جميل قادر على تأدية العتابا والميجانا ، وهو لون غنائي معروف في سوريا ولبنان والأردن وفلسطين. تأثرت بمطرب العتابا اللبناني يوسف تاج الذي اتبّعت أسلوبه فيما بعد المطربة صباح، توفيت سنة 1968 ودفنت في بلدة الشويت في جبل لبنان حيث كان للعائلة منزلا هناك إضافة إلى منزلهم الكبير في بلدة القريا في السويداء.
ولد بعام 1910 في بلدة القريا في جبل الدروز. وقد عانى حرمان رؤية والده ومن اضطراره إلى التنقل والسفر منذ طفولته، من سوريا إلى القاهرة مع والدته هربا من الفرنسيين المعتزمين اعتقاله وعائلته انتقاما لوطنية والدهم فهد الاطرش وعائلة الأطرش في الجبل الذي قاتل ضد ظلم الفرنسيين في جبل الدروز بسوريا. عاش فريد في القاهرة في حجرتين صغيرتين مع والدته عالية بنت المنذر وشقيقه فؤاد وأسمهان. التحق فريد بإحدى المدارس الفرنسية ((الخرنفش)) حيث اضطر إلى تغيير اسم عائلته فأصبحت كوسا بدلاً من الأطرش وهذا ما كان يضايقه كثيرا. ذات يوم زار المدرسة هنري هوواين فأعجب بغناء فريد وراح يشيد بعائلة الأطرش أمام أحد الأساتذة فطرد فريد من المدرسة. التحق بعدها بمدرسة البطريركية للروم الكاثوليك.
نفد المال الذي كان بحوزة والدته وانقطعت أخبار الوالد، وهذا ما دفعها للغناء في روض الفرح لأن العمل في الأديرة لم يعد يكفي. وافق فريد وفؤاد على هذا الأمر بشرط مرافقتها حيثما تذهب.

حرصت والدته على بقاء فريد في المدرسة غير أن زكي باشا أوصى مصطفى رضا بأن يدخله معهد الموسيقى. عزف فريد في المعهد وتم قبوله فأحس وكأنه ولد في تلك اللحظة. إلى جانب المعهد بدأ ببيع القماش وتوزيع الإعلانات من أجل إعالة الأسرة. وبعد عام بدأ بالتفتيش عن نوافذ فنية ينطلق منها حتى التقى بفريد غصن والمطرب إبراهيم حمودة الذي طلب منه الانضمام إلى فرقته للعزف على العود. أقام زكي باشا حفلة يعود ريعها إلى الثوار، أطل فريد تلك الليلة على المسرح وغنى أغنية وطنية ونجح في طلته الأولى. بعد جملة من النصائح اهتدى إلى بديعة مصابني التي ألحقته مع مجموعة المغنين ونجح أخيرا في إقناعها بأن يغني بمفرده. ولكن عمله هذا لم يكن يدر عليه المال بل كانت أموره المالية تتدهور إلى الوراء. بدأ العمل في محطة شتال الأهلية حتى تقرر امتحانه في المعهد ولسوء حظه أصيب بزكام وأصرت اللجنة على عدم تأجيله ولم يكن غريبا أن تكون النتيجة فصله من المعهد. ولكن مدحت عاصم طلب منه العزف على العود للإذاعة مرة في الإسبوع فاستشاره فريد فيما يخص الغناء خاصة بعد فشله أمام اللجنة فوافق مدحت بشرط الامتثال أمام اللجنة وكانوا نفس الأشخاص الذين امتحنوه سابقا إضافة إلى مدحت. غنى أغنية الليالي والموال لينتصر أخيرا ويبدأ في تسجيل أغنياته المستقلة. سجل أغنيته الأولى (يا ريتني طير لأطير حواليك) كلمات وألحان الملحن الفلسطيني يحيى اللبابيدى فأصبح يغني في الإذاعة مرتين في الإسبوع لكن ما كان يقبضه كان زهيدا جدا.

استعان بفرقة موسيقية وبأشهر العازفين كأحمد الحفناوي ويعقوب طاطيوس وغيرهم وزود الفرقة بآلات غربية إضافة إلى الآلات الشرقية وسجل الأغنية الأولى وألحقها بثانية (يا بحب من غير أمل) وبعد التسجيل خرج خاسرا لكن تشجيع الجمهور عوض خسارته وعلم أن الميكروفون هو الرابط الوحيد بينه وبين الجمهور. عرف فريد عادات جميلة وعادات غير مستحبة، فكان اتصاله بالقمار شيئا من تلك العادات السيئة، أدمن على لعب الورق حتى عود نفسه على الإقلاع، وعرف أيضا حبه للخيل. ذات يوم وفيما كان في ميدان السباق راهن على حصان وكسب الجائزة وعلم في الوقت عينه بوفاة أخته أسمهان في حادث سيارة فترك موت أخته أثرا عميقا في قلبه وخيل إليه أن المقامرة بعنف ستنقذه. تعرض إلى ذبحة صدرية وبقي سجين غرفته، تسليته الوحيدة كانت التحدث مع الأصدقاء وقراءة المجلات، اعتبر أن علاجه الوحيد هو العمل. وبينما كان يكد في عمله سقط من جديد واعتبر الأطباء سقطته هذه النهائية، ولكن في الليلة نفسها أراد الدخول إلى الحمام فكانت السقطة الثالثة وكأنها كانت لتحرك قلبه من جديد وتسترد له الحياة، فطلب منه الأطباء الراحة والرحمة لنفسه لأن قلبه يتربص به، وهكذا بعد كل ما ذاقه من تجارب وما صادف من عقبات عرف حقيقة لايتطرق إليها شك وهي أن البقاء للأصح. توفي في مستشفى الحايك في بيروت إثر أزمة قلبية وذلك عام 1974 عن عمر ناهز 64 سنة. لقب ب(ملك العود) و( موسيقار الأزمان )
Belonging to the Al-Atrash family, they are princes and one of the ancient families in Jabal Al-Arab in southern Syria. This area, also called Jabal Al-Druze, is also named after its Druze population.

He was born in the year 1910 in the town of Al-Qaria in Jabal Al-Druze. He suffered the deprivation of seeing his father and his having to move and travel since his childhood, from Syria to Cairo with his mother to escape the French intending to arrest him and his family in revenge for the patriotism of their father Fahd al-Atrash and the family of al-Atrash in the mountain who fought against the oppression of the French in Mount Druze, Syria. Farid lived in Cairo in two small rooms with his mother, Alia Bint Al Mundhir, and his brother Fouad and Asmahan. Farid enrolled in one of the French schools ((Al-Kharnfash)), where he had to change his family name and became zucchini instead of atrash, and this was what bothered him a lot. One day, Henry Howen visited the school, admired singing Farid and praising the Al Atrash family in front of a teacher, so Farid was expelled from the school. He then joined the School of the Roman Catholic patriarchate.
His mother's money ran out and the father's news was cut off, and this prompted her to sing in Rawd al-Farah because working in the monasteries was no longer sufficient. Farid and Fouad agreed to this, on condition that she accompany her wherever she went.

His mother made sure that Farid stayed in school, but Zaki Pasha recommended Mustafa Reda to enter the Music Institute. Farid played at the institute and was accepted, feeling as if he was born at that moment. Besides the institute, he started selling cloth and distributing advertisements to support the family. After a year, he began searching for artistic windows from which he proceeded until he met Farid Ghosn and the singer Ibrahim Hammouda, who asked him to join his band to play the oud. Zaki Pasha held a party whose proceeds go back to the revolutionaries, that night Farid appeared on the stage and sang a patriotic song and succeeded in his first appearance. After a number of advice, he guided Badia Maabni, who joined him with the group of singers, and he finally managed to persuade her to sing on his own. But this work did not bring him money, but his financial affairs were deteriorating back. Work began at the Stahl National Station until his examination at the institute was decided. Unfortunately, he suffered a cold and the committee insisted that it should not be postponed. It was not strange that the result was his dismissal from the institute. However, Medhat Asim asked him to play the oud for radio once a week, so Farid consulted him regarding singing, especially after his failure in front of the committee. Medhat agreed on the condition of compliance before the committee and they were the same people who had previously tested him in addition to Medhat. He sang Layali and Mawal's song to finally triumph and start recording his independent songs. He recorded his first song, "Ya Ritni, A Bird to Fly Around You", lyrics and compositions of the Palestinian composer, Yahya Al-Lababidi, so he sings on the radio twice a week, but what was holding him was very cheap.

He used an orchestra and famous musicians such as Ahmed Al-Hefnawi, Jacob Tatyus, and others. He provided the band with Western instruments in addition to oriental instruments. He recorded the first song and attached it a second (oh love without hope). After the recording, he came out loser, but encouraging the audience instead of losing it and knew that the microphone is the only link between him and the audience. Farid knew beautiful and undesirable habits, so his contact with gambling was one of those bad habits, he became addicted to playing cards until he promised himself to quit, and he also knew his love for horses. One day, while he was in the field of racing, he gambled on a horse, won the prize, and at the same time learned of the death of his sister, Asmahan, in a car accident, and he left his sister's death deeply in his heart and it was imagined that gambling violently would save him. He was subjected to angina and remained a prisoner in his room, his only pastime was talking to friends and reading magazines, he considered that his only cure was work. While he was laboring in his work, he fell again and the doctors considered this final one to fall, but on the same night he wanted to enter the bathroom and the third fall was as if it was to move his heart again and restore life to him, so the doctors asked him to rest and have mercy for himself because his heart is lying in wait for him, and so after all that He tasted of his experiences and the obstacles he encountered. He knew a truth that was not touched by doubt, which is that survival is more correct. He died in Hayek Hospital in Beirut following a heart attack in 1974 at the age of 64.
