Palmeiras, is a Brazilian football club based in the city of São Paulo.
Officially founded on August 26, 1914, under the name "Palestra Italia", and renamed to the current "Palmeiras" on September 14, 1942.
It currently competes in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and is one of the two most prestigious clubs in South America and the world for its titles.
Palmeiras is the most successful Brazilian club in the country. In Brazil, it is the club that has been national champion the most, in addition to being the only one to win all the national titles (tournaments and cups) ever played in the country.
Palmeiras is one of the most successful clubs in the world, having won 10 titles in the Brazilian Championship, 4 titles in the Copa do Brasil, a Champions League, 2 titles in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B (Second Division), two Copa Libertadores and one Mercosur Cup. He also won the Rio Cup (international tournament), the first official intercontinental championship.
The club was also runner-up in the Intercontinental Cup, 3 times runner-up in the Copa Libertadores da América, 2 times runner-up in the Copa Mercosur and once runner-up in the Recopa Sudamericana. Palmeiras can be proud of having won at least once all the national competitions they played and for that reason they received the title of Brazilian Champion of the Century against the São Paulo Football Federation.
With the conquest of the Copa Brasil 2020, Palmeiras achieved 17 national conquests and is the only club with the most champions in Brazil.
It disputes the most important classic in the state of São Paulo, the Derby Paulista, against Corinthians, its biggest rival. It also has a strong rivalry with São Paulo and Santos FC, the other big teams in the state.
Palmeiras appears technically tied with São Paulo, with about 16 million fans across Brazil, according to Instituto Datafolha.
Surveys presented to the public since the early 1990s show that Palmeiras and São Paulo alternate between third and fourth positions and are technically tied, by a margin of error.
