La descripcion de Infografia Interactiva
Life on earth has never been so threatened as it is now. The climate crisis has worsened at a faster than expected rate.
Young people from around the world have come together to be the megaphone of the scientific community: they demand joint global action to secure the future of future generations.
Today 7.7 billion people inhabit the planet, by 2050 we will be almost 10 billion. How are we going to feed a growing population? Do we really have to increase agricultural production when today 1/3 of the food goes to waste? Consumption habits generate so much waste that they will have to be radically changed.
Greenhouse gas emissions show no signs of slowing down to meet the needs of transport, industry and agriculture. The melting of the Arctic and Antarctic poles gets worse. The geography of entire regions is changing. And forests continue to be decimated to increase livestock and crop production such as soy. The consequences may be irreversible. There is an extinction of millions of animal and plant species that will affect all.
What can we do to change this scenario? More than half of the Portuguese say they are willing to reduce meat consumption and pay more for products of sustainable origin, according to data from the "Second Great Survey on Sustainability" in Portugal, now released. But there are many other ways we can reduce our everyday ecological footprint.
At Borders XXI we discuss the solutions that people, businesses and organizations can implement to ensure the sustainability of everything and everyone who lives and lives on planet Earth. With sociologist Luísa Schmidt, environmental engineer Tiago Domingos and economist Filipa Saldanha.
The moderation is from RTP journalist Ana Lourenço. Do not miss the day of September 18, at 10:30 pm, on RTP3.
