The Zurich Festival attracts millions of visitors with a unique blend of folk festival, carnival and party highlight pass.

The Zurich Festival app informs you about the program with easy access to the map, it lets you playfully experience the Zurich Festival and keeps you up to date to recent news.

Features in a nutshell:

- Program and map: Everything at a glance: either to browse the program, do a search for your favourite acts or finding your way to the stage or to the nearest toilet. Also, stay up to date about the community with the Züri Fäscht page.

- Badges: Conquer the Zurich Festival playfulyl and earn beautiful badges. Share them with your friends by mail or facebook - simply with a few clicks.

- FindME: Finding friends, the easy way! Don't be held up by meeting places - Leave it to the app to let your friends where you are. Simply specify a period, and choose your friends.

- Messaging (Inbox): Site-specific warnings and instructions can be sent directly from the emergency services. There are several categories. For example, messages nearby your location, general information and emergency information. And if you leave the festival again, the app shows you the best opportunities for public transport.

- Safety and visitors densities: Thanks to anonymous location data of the app visitor densities can be estimated and visualised on a map. ETH Zurich collects the data and evaluates it. A so-called heat map visualises aggregated visitor densities and can be used by the Zurich police.

The app was developed by the ETH Zurich and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) together with the city of Zurich and the organisers of the Zurich Festival. The app does not only provide useful information, but ETH Zurich can use anonymously collected location data for their research. One of the research goals is to study visitor flow at major events, so that such events can be made ​​more save in the future. We want to understand how people behave in a large crowd. We need your help: With the use of the app you will help us in collecting valuable data that shed light on crowd behavior. First results can be seen on the Scientifica 2013 (www.scientifica.ch).

By using the app and with your consent you give permission to researchers of ETH Zurich and the DFKI to collect anonymous location data. Data collection is only active during the Zurich Festival's within its area or when FindME is activated. Note, that collected data is completely anonymous: There is no way to reveal your identity from the data we receive.

ETH Zurich respects your privacy and complies with all ethical rules that have been set by the European Union. Please support us in this promising research project with the goal to save lives in a real emergency.

Please note that continued use of GPS running in the background could dramatically decrease battery life.
The app requires background localization for some features. The localization is required for the badge collecting, FindME and creating visitors densities. It can be turned off at any time in the app settings. We recommend that you completely invite your device before you leave the house.

Note that some features (FindME, Züri Fäscht page) require a facebook login.
