Eentsi (Ashaninka)

It is an application for cell phones and tablets (Android Operating System) for children from 3 to 5 years old to learn through images and sounds the basic contents about the alphabet, numbers, family, colors, parts of the human body, animals, fruits and basic expressions in the Ashaninka language.

This app is aimed at serving as instruments to strengthen and promote linguistic revitalization processes that arise with the new generations.

The Asheninka people, also known as ‘Ashaninka del Gran Pajonal’, have been related to the Ashaninka people because they have a common history and because they have traditionally been located in the same geographical area: the central jungle of Peru. In addition, both peoples share a language that, although with different variants, is considered one of the languages ​​that groups the Arawak linguistic family.

Based on community censuses and prior consultation processes carried out between 2013 and 2014, there is valuable information on a set of communities that are recognized as different from the Ashaninka and are identified as part of the Asheninka people.

Currently, the Asheninka people live mainly in the departments of Ucayali and Pasco. According to the results of the 2017 national censuses, due to their customs and ancestors there have been 13 people who have self-identified as part of the Asheninka people at the national level; and due to the field work carried out by the Ministry of Education, 8,774 people have stated that they speak the Asheninka language. In addition, the data obtained by the Ministry of Culture, the population of the communities of the Asheninka people is estimated at 14,989 people.
