Ronneby is the oldest town in Blekinge and has a fantastic history. During the Middle Ages, the city was the only one of importance in Blekinge thanks to its location at the navigable Ronnebyån and the roads that met the river. Blekinge's main building, the Holy Cross Church, was built during this period.

Ronneby got its name from Ronnebyån which was initially called Rotne å and means "the roaring river". Ronnebyån with its roaring rapids and falls goes through the center and on to Brunnsparken to open into Ronneby harbor and the beautiful archipelago.
