As we begin to leave our homes again and venture into public space after a year of isolation, immersive artist Marike Splint invites the audience to rediscover how we relate to the city we inhabit with the site-specific soundwalk 32 ACRES. The Los Angeles State Historic Park serves as the enigmatic canvas for a contemplative experience on the character of Los Angeles, its hidden histories and imagined futures, and the paradoxes of urban nature.

After downloading the custom-built app, and using your own mobile device and headphones, your location and movements in the park will conjure the sound and text you are hearing. Combining narrative, composition and sound recordings, you will be guided on a walk suggesting other ways of seeing and being in our immediate surroundings.

WHEN TO GO

The Los Angeles State Historic Park is open everyday from 8am to sunset Once you have downloaded the app, you can experience 32 ACRES whenever you want within those hours.

The experience takes about 60 minutes. You will walk approximately 1.25 miles, including grass, pavement, gravel and natural soil.

We recommend doing the walk in the morning,
before the midday heat,
or between late afternoon and sunset,
when the park cools down and the sunlight beautifully changes.

READY TO EXPERIENCE 32 ACRES?

When you are ready to experience the soundwalk, go to the main parking lot of the LA State Historic Park:

1501 N Spring Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012

When you drive or walk into the parking lot above, you will see a building on the south corner.

Please note that there are TWO buildings in the park that look very much alike!
Make sure you are at the building located at the main parking lot.

In the middle of the building is a corridor.
Go to that corridor, and open the app when you are there.
The sound and voice in the app will guide you from there.
