Omar Ibn Al-Mukhtar was born in 1862 in the village of Zawiat Janzour in Cyrenaica, eastern Libya, and his father died when he was young. Then he went to the oasis of Jaghbub, the stronghold of the Senussi call, where he studied jurisprudence, hadith, interpretation and the Arabic language at the hands of the elders of the call, led by the Mahdi Sanusi.
