KE-Finder

The KE Finder Apps is a mobile aid for assessing the carbohydrate content of food. It is intended to give the diabetic an indication of insulin intake. The program is intended to replace carrying a carbohydrate unit book.

In order to optimize insulin therapy, precise knowledge of the nutritional content of foods is necessary. The carbohydrate units or abbreviated KE (KHE) are often used as a useful estimation tool. KE are used to calculate the insulin dose. A carbohydrate unit is generally defined as the amount of food that contains 10 grams of digestible and therefore blood sugar-effective carbohydrates in different forms of sugar and starch.

The new carbohydrate units app is designed to replace carrying a carbohydrate book. The app is based on a database with more than 8,700 basic foods (update August 17, 2014) and industrially produced foods. The user can determine the food either via the product group, the manufacturer or a full-text search. Unless otherwise stated, the features are given per 100 grams.

The KE table has been compiled to the best of our knowledge and belief. However, it can still contain errors. Even though many of the values ​​come from the manufacturers of the food, the University of Hohenheim, the German Food Code and the US National Agricultural Library, the values ​​have not been checked by experts. Therefore, the KE table can only serve as a guide. It does not release you from checking your blood sugar levels after eating.
