The Secret Garden Book

The Secret Garden is a novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett first published as a book in 1911, after being serialized in The American Magazine between November 1910 and August 1911. Set in England, it is one of Burnett's most popular novels and is considered a classic of English children's literature. It has been adapted for film and television numerous times.


Summary:

An epidemic of cholera, which hits India, kills Mary's parents and all the servants of the house and the girl is orphaned. Mary is sent to the United Kingdom to live with her uncle named Archibald Craven, a widower with a very sick son, in a luxurious mansion in Yorkshire, where they live in an unbreathable environment. To her further unease, she is joined by the evil arts of Mrs. Medlock, the strict housekeeper. However, she will discover a refuge for her and her new friends: Colin, her disabled cousin and her capricious, and Dickon, a naive, kind and great protector of animals. The three children, with their good hearts, rehabilitate the place that in turn will help them build a special relationship, which changes their destinies forever.
