For 100 years, the name Bayernwerk has stood for a safe and reliable energy supply in Bavaria. As a network operator, Bayernwerk Netz GmbH plays a key role. A modern, intelligent power grid is needed so that more and more energy from renewable sources is available now and in the future. That is why the company relies on digitization and innovation, supports numerous scientific projects and works systematically on the expansion of energy networks. Bayernwerk Netz GmbH supplies around seven million people with energy. It is active in the Bavarian regions of Lower and Upper Franconia, Upper Palatinate and Lower and Upper Bavaria, making it the largest regional distribution network operator in Bavaria: the electricity network covers 156,000 kilometers, its gas network 6,000 kilometers and the street lighting network 34,600 kilometers. In the energy grids, the company distributes 70 percent of the electrical energy from renewable sources. This is ensured by 340,000 decentralized generation systems that feed green electricity into the Bayernwerk network. In northern and eastern Bavaria, the company also supplies customers via its natural gas network.
