Russia football team

The Russian football team (Russian: Сборная России по футболу) is the selection of Russian players representing the country in international men's football competitions, under the aegis of the Russian Football Federation. This selection had replaced the Soviet Union team in January 1992. An Imperial Russian team had briefly existed, between 1912 and the outbreak of World War I in 1914
Russia made their debut in international competition on their first attempt at the 1994 World Cup. They then qualified for the 2002 and 2014 World Cups, but were eliminated in the first round each time. The country also obtains the organization of the 2018 World Cup and the 2017 Confederations Cup. It is moreover at home that Sbornaïa will achieve its best performance in the World Cup, reaching the quarter-finals and against all odds, notably eliminating Spain on penalties. On the continental level, Russia qualified for the final phase of the European Championship in 1996, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020. In 2008, it achieved its best performance there, being beaten only in the semi-finals.
