Overview of Physiology
Physiology or physiology (pronounced fa-al) is one of the branches of biology that studies the operation of living systems. The term "physiology" is borrowed from the Dutch physiologie, which is formed from two Ancient Greek words: φύσις, physis, meaning "origin" or "essence" and λογία, logia, meaning "study." The term "faal" is taken from Arabic, means "sign", "function", "work".

Physiology uses a variety of methods to study biomolecules, cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, and organisms as a whole perform their physical and chemical functions to support life. Physiology is one of the fields of science that is the object of awarding the Nobel Prize (Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine).

Based on the object of study, it is known that human physiology, plant physiology, and animal physiology, although the principles of physiology are universal, they do not depend on the type of organism being studied. For example, what is studied in yeast cell physiology can also be partly or wholly applied to human cells.

Other sciences have evolved from physiology considering that this science is quite old. Some of the important derivatives are biochemistry, biophysics, biomechanics, cell genetics, pharmacology, and ecophysiology. The development of molecular biology influenced the direction of physiological studies.
