Regenerative agriculture integrates the principles of organic agriculture, agroecology and holistic management to combat the decline in biodiversity, increased atmospheric carbon dioxide, soil loss, water pollution and negative externalities for local communities caused by some conventional agricultural practices.

In practice, this means growing perennial crops in agroforestry systems, reducing external agrochemical inputs, such as synthetic fertilizers, opting for cultural practices and organic fertilizers produced on the farm, diversifying crops and crop varieties, integrating native trees and livestock with farming systems, and conserve, improve or establish natural habitats.
