With the theme of 40 years of Social Service "Upheaval", the 16th Brazilian Congress of Social Workers (CBAS) will certainly be another memorable congress in the history of this category.

In 1979, the 3rd Brazilian Congress of Social Workers became known as the "Virada Congress" and became a landmark symbolizing a broader process, with different expressions, that changed the configuration of Social Service in Brazil.

In 2019, the CFESS-CRESS Group, ABEPSS and ENESSO invite you to celebrate and, above all, to reaffirm this 40-year-old commitment to a professional agenda that is part of the workers' demands. an emancipated society free from all forms of exploitation and oppression.
The 16th CBAS will be a space for reflection on the current challenges posed to social workers in the face of a context that has severely aggravated social inequality in the country and at the same time reaffirmed the neoliberal direction for policies to confront the "social issue". Social workers have been called upon to operationalize increasingly focused services and to manage the scarcity of possibilities to meet the demands of the impoverished and violated user population on their most basic human rights.

Facing these challenges requires collective strategies and CBAS has historically been an opportunity to discuss them, enabling qualified professional development and political organization spaces.

In this edition, the organizing entities are deepening some changes in the structure of the Congress, initiated in the last CBAS (Olinda, 2016).

The Congress will be held at the Nilson Nelson Gymnasium, in the city of Brasilia (DF), from October 30 to November 3, 2019, and is being designed for a public of 10,000 people. This means daring to expand the possibilities of professional participation, as the growth of this category that already surpasses 180 thousand enrolled in Brazil.

There will be four central plenary sessions, nine simultaneous plenary sessions, presentation of works and book launching, as can be seen in the programming link (still in the preliminary version) here on the website.
