Experience over 1,000 years of maritime history at the Bergen Maritime Museum! The app gives you a tour with 20 selected stops in the exhibitions. The guide tells you directly, which will give you a far greater benefit than if you were to walk around without a tour.

On the walk you will see many different types of objects such as ship models, paintings, figureheads - but also smaller objects that tell the story of seafarers. With the app, you will hear stories you would otherwise have overlooked.

Bergen Maritime Museum was established in 1921 by Bergens Rederiforening and Bergens Skipperforening. Their collections formed the museum's core of maritime artefacts. Today's beautiful museum building was designed by the Bergen architect Per Grieg and was completed in 1962. Today, the Bergen Maritime Museum is a department of Museum Vest which also conveys fishing, coastal and war history.

Bergen's Maritime Museum documents, researches and conveys the city's maritime history. We take care of objects and photos that tell this story. The museum publishes a maritime history yearbook and has a specialist library with a reading room. Marine archaeological research is an important part of the museum's activities. Our archaeologists investigate coastal and fjord areas from Sunnhordland to Sunnmøre. Bergen's Maritime Museum also actively disseminates the maritime history of the seven seas through exhibitions, teaching for schools and kindergartens, family events, lectures and social media. It is therefore quite possible that you will meet a kindergarten or school class in the exhibitions.
