Harare (formerly Salisbury from 1890 to 1982) is the capital of Zimbabwe and is also its most populous city and the main administrative, commercial and communications center. The city enjoys the status of an independent province. One of the iconic images of Harare is that of the jacaranda trees lining the edges of the great boulevards in the northern part of the city center.
