Habib Sheikh Hasan bin Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Salim al-Kaff in his book at-Taqrir as-Sadidah fil Masailil Mufidah, said that performing the Eid al-Adha prayer is more afdhal or more important than the Eid prayer.

When it comes to Eid al-Adha, one of the recommended prayers is Eid al-Adha prayer. Regarding the law on Eid al-Adha prayers, scholars from the four schools of thought differ. Sheikh Habib Hasan Al-Kaff explained that scholars from the Shafi'i circles mentioned that Eid al-Adha prayers are sunnah muakkad—sunnah prayers that are highly recommended.

What about the law Eid al-Adha sermon ? Imam Nawawi, a fiqh scholar from the Shafi'i school, said that the law of carrying out the Eid sermon or Eid al-Adha is sunnah. Listening to the sermon is also sunnah. This means that the Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adha prayers are still valid, even if they do not follow the Eid al-Adha sermon until they are finished or without using the sermon (prayer only).
