One of his greatest sporting achievements was obtained on November 4, 1967 when he became champion of the Intercontinental Cup by defeating the representative of the European Champions Cup: Celtic Football Club of Scotland, 1-0 at the Centennial Stadium in Montevideo in a third game for the tiebreaker, thus becoming the first Argentine club to be proclaimed world champion. Thanks to this important achievement, he is part of the select group of the only 29 teams in the world that have won the highest soccer club championship in the world, among more than 300,000 clubs recognized by FIFA.
It is considered one of the five greats of Argentine football, from the moment when the AFA ordered the implementation of the so-called "proportional vote" in 1937, which consisted of giving greater decision-making power to those clubs with the greatest number of members, seniority, call and number of titles.
