Pasión Fluminense

The Fluminense Football Club (known simply as Fluminense) is a Brazilian sports club based in the city of Rio de Janeiro. It was founded on July 21, 1902 in Rio de Janeiro by Oscar Cox, a Brazilian of British origin. The founding act took place in the Horácio da Costa Santos residential mansion, located at 51 Rua Marquês de Abrantes street.

Established in the then aristocratic neighborhood of Las Laranjeiras, Fluminense was forged by the children of the Rio elite who had come into contact with football during their studies in Europe. Indeed, Oscar Cox introduced soccer to Rio de Janeiro after completing his studies at the Colegio de La Ville, in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he played and learned to enjoy soccer. Their first official match was played against the now-defunct Río FC and ended 8-0 for Fluminense. The first soccer achievement was in 1906, when he won his first Carioca Championship, a regional championship in Brazil.

Fluminense disputes the Brazilian Series A Championship, where they won four titles: 1970, 1984, 2010 and 2012. They were also champion of the 2007 Brazil Cup and the 2016 Brazilian First League. It is the second team with the highest number of titles in the Carioca Championship, with 31 times, and in turn, he was the maximum champion of said competition from its creation in 1906 until 2009, thus completing a historical supremacy in said competition with 103 years as the maximum champion. He was also champion twice in the Rio-São Paulo Tournament in 1957 and in 1960, the first undefeated.

At the international level, he won the Rio International Cup in 1952, an old intercontinental championship organized by the CBD. His best result in the Copa Libertadores de América was a runner-up in 2008. His best result in the Copa Sudamericana was also a runner-up in 2009, losing both finals against the same team, the Quito League.

Fluminense is part of the Big 4 of Rio de Janeiro, along with Flamengo, Botafogo and Vasco da Gama, who are its rivals. It is considered by the Brazilian media one of the clubs of the select group called "Los Twelve Grandes". The Fluminense shirt is maroon, green and white with vertical stripes; for that reason it is nicknamed like Tricolor. However, the first shirt would be in two colors: white and gray in equal parts.

It originally played at its Estádio das Laranjeiras stadium in the homonymous neighborhood, where it was founded.

He currently plays his most important matches at the Maracanã Stadium.
